John Richardson

My “trade name” is “Woodles”—(sounds like Noodles). Wood Carving is my passion. It has been an opportunity to express myself, keep pleasurably occupied in times when my life needs a distraction and for reaping its many rewards-- including the accolades I have enjoyed. I learned carving as a Boy Scout and have been a member of the Wood Spirit Carving Club in Durham for a number of years after my retirement from General Electric My subject matter is mostly small scale figures that can be hand held. Norman Rockwell portrayals in particular have been great inspiration for my work. The photos of the Santas I have displayed were featured in Wood Carving Illustrated Magazine. The Santas are “stackable”. The basic Santa is composed of 7 parts assembled on a dowel. As an added feature, pieces are available to convert Santa to a Fireman, Baker, College Alumni, Scotsman, or ??.
